TWU Falls In AAC Contest Despite Late Spark

ATHENS, Tenn. – The Tennessee Wesleyan University Men's soccer team dropped their second Appalachian Athletic Conference contest of the season despite a late rally against rival Bryan College in a 2-1 loss on Tuesday.

With the loss, the Bulldogs hold a 7-4 record overall with a 2-3 record in AAC play, while the Lions improve to 8-4 overall and 2-1 in AAC competition.

TWU came out with an aggressive effort in the first half but was unable to connect on any of their 5 shot attempts. Goalkeeper Nick Croucher had two saves early in the contest to help the Bulldogs enter the half 0-all.

Bryan wasted no time after the intermission, scoring the first goal of the contest less than a minute into the second half. The Lions added another goal just ten minutes later and extended their lead 2-0.

The Bulldogs made a late push after a goal by Gabriel Gonzalez helped put TWU on the scoreboard. The goal came off of an assist by Richy Volny in the 77th minute. Unfortunately, TWU's efforts came too late, as the Bulldogs failed to record another shot attempt in the contest. The Lions secured the 2-1 AAC victory.

Despite the Bulldogs leading 5 shots to 3 in the first half, Bryan outshot TWU in the match 9-7. Four of the Bulldogs' seven shots was on goal compared to five of the Lions' nine being on goal.

TWU will be back in Appalachian Athletic Conference action this weekend in a home match against St. Andrews University. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in Athens, Tn.
