Tennessee Wesleyan hosted Milligan College on Saturday for Appalachian Athletic Conference Basketball action. With both teams getting a win they move into second place right behind Bluefield College. The Lady Bulldogs are 5-2 along with Montreat College and Reinhardt University, while Bluefield posts a 6-1 record. The Bulldogs are 5-1 while Bluefield in currently 6-1 after winning over Bryan this weekend.
The Lady Buffaloes took an early lead and held onto until halfway through the second half. The Lady Bulldogs were down by 4 (29-33) going into the locker room at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs tied the game, 37-37 at 13:49 and then went on a 18-6 run to take the lead 55-43. Milligan made an effort to come back but the Lady Bulldogs put away the win at 63-59.
Michelle Davis put in season high, 27 points, for the Lady Bulldogs and pulled down 13 rebounds. Also scoring in double digits was Heather Gibson with 13 points.
The Men's game started out differently with the Bulldogs pulling out to as much as a 12 point lead in the first half. After trailing at half 37-33, Milligan came out to go on a 17-6 run to take the lead by 7 just 5 minutes into the half. The Bulldogs worked the next 10 minutes to gain a nine point lead over the Buffaloes. The Bulldogs won 82-75.
The Bulldogs shot 51% in field goals, but were just 2 of 15 from behind the arc. Tennessee Wesleyan was 28 for 36 (78%) from the free throw line.
Desmond Crisp was 7 for 12 in field goals and 10 for 12 in free throws to lead the Bulldogs with 24 points. Also scoring in double digits for the Bulldogs was Shannon Smith with 16, Quincy Scates with 13, and Matt Harper with 11. Harper increases his career points to 997 and looks to be among the elite to score 1000 career points on Wednesday.
Tennessee Wesleyan hosts Montreat College on Wednesday, Janurary 18th with the Lady Bulldogs tipping off at 5:30 and the men to follow at 7:30 pm.
