Montreat College came to Tennessee Wesleyan hoping for a win on Wednesday night but went away defeated 82-79. The Bulldogs are now 6-1 in the conference right behind Bluefield who also has only one loss but has won 7 games.

Seven minutes into the game, Matt Harper scored his 1000th career point after hitting a lay up early in the game and then later making it to the free throw line. Wesleyan found themselves down, 19-14, after 10 minutes of play. Quincy Scates and E'Jay Ward had four points each, while Crisp added two as the Bulldogs forged in front, 24-21. The Cavaliers rallied to lead, 33-30, before a three-point play by Michael Nicolo knotted the score. Montreat, however, would lead again at the half, 35-33.

The Cavs hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start the second half, widening the gap to eight, 41-33. Wesleyan pulled within one on a 3-pointer by Matt Harper and took the lead, 44-43, on a Crisp bucket. Shannon Smith evened the score at 50 and Harper hit a free throw, followed by baskets from Smith and Scates, and TWC led, 55-50. Twice Wesleyan led by eight on a bucket by Scates and a layup by Ward following a steal, but hit only four of 10 free throws in the final minute to allow Montreat to climb within the final three-point margin.
