Tennessee Wesleyan defeated Virginia Intermont on Wednesday night to remain in the top spot among the AAC. The Bulldogs, now 11-2, hold a one game lead over Reinhardt University (10-3) and a three game lead over Bluefield (9-5).
Wesleyan trailed, 14-8, before E'Jay Ward and Matt Harper drained back-to-back 3-pointers. Desmond Crisp and Josh Gregory added buckets for an 18-14 lead. Shannon Smith and Harper followed with treys as the lead grew to 12, 29-17. Ward added his second "3" and Quincy Scates had a triple among nine points as Wesleyan widened the halftime gap to 21 points, 49-28.
VI cut eight points off the deficit in the first five minutes of the second half to trail by 13, 53-40. Wesleyan, however, answered with a 16-2 streak, highlighted by Jesse Booher's pair of 3-pointers. TWC opened its biggest lead of 39 points, 89-50, on a 3-pointer by Booher with six minutes to play.
All five Wesleyan starters finished in double figures, led by Crisp with 19 points. Scates netted 17 points, eight rebounds; Harper 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists; Ward 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, five steals and Smith 11 points.
The Bulldogs travel to Milligan College on Saturday for a 4:00 pm game and then host Maryville College on Monday at 7:00 pm.
