Tennessee Wesleyan (18) hosted Lee University, who was ranked 3rd in the NAIA Coaches Top 25 pre-season poll, for a single nine inning game on Wednesday. Since 2004, the Bulldogs have competed against the Flames fifteen times, 8 of which were at home. The Bulldogs have gone 5-3 in the home matches but are 0-7 in Cleveland before today. Tennessee Wesleyan scored 2 in the ninth inning to increase that record to 6-3 at home. The Bulldogs are now 5-4 overall for the 2012 season.
The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Jordan Guida hit a double to left field, followed by a double by Drew Levi to score Guida. A passed ball advanced Levi to third and then Dale Ricketts hit a two run homer.
Lee came back in the top of the fourth to score 2 runs. Taylor Oldham hit a homer in the 4th to extend the lead to 4-2. In the fifth, Thomas Sicking singled, followed by a single by Travis Burnside to score Sicking making it 5-2. Lee came back in the top of the 6th with a 3 run homer to tie the game and then scored two more in the 7th to take the lead.
Drew Levi doubled in the bottom of the eighth and advanced to third on a passed ball. Thomas Sicking hit a single to score Levi, and bring the Bulldogs to within one. Bulldogs held the Flames of Lee to no runs in the 9th. Stephen Branca was hit by a pitch to reach first and then advanced when Jake Stone walked. Taylor Oldham hit a sac fly to score Branca and tie the game 7-7. With Miles Allen in running for Stone on second, Jordan Guida hit a single to score Allen and win the game 8-7.
Drew Levi led the Bulldogs with 3 hits including two doubles and a triple. Thomas Sicking, Anthony Biox, and Jordan Guida each had two hits. Taylor Oldham and Dale Ricketts each had a homerun and 2 RBIs.
Jeremy Fitzgerald pitched the first 6 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. Corey Collins came in to pitch 1 2/3 innings, followed by Josh McDaniel, who pitched 1/3 inning. Zach Fleshman finished the game and was given the win giving up no hits and no runs.
Tennessee Wesleyan will host Indiana Tech this weekend for a four game series. They will play a double header on Saturday beginning at 12:00 pm and then another double header on Sunday beginning at 1:00 pm.
