Tennessee Wesleyan College blanked the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, 8-0, in game one then staged a dramatic seven-run rally in the final inning, highlighted by Brandi Lasley's two out grandslam home run, to claim an 8-6 win in the nightcap of Saturday's softball doubleheader.
In game one, Kelly Walker tossed a five-hitter, struck out four and did not walk a batter. Lindsey Arndts was 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and RBI. Rachel Moretto had two hits with a double and two runs scored.
In game two, Walker went 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. It was a different story on Monday in the double header against Trevecca Nazarene where the Lady Bulldogs dropped two close games. In game one the Tennessee Wesleyan had 8 hits but only scored two runs with Trevecca scoring 3 runs. The Lady Bulldogs led 2-1 thru 4 innings, but Trevecca came back in the 5th to knot the game. The runner just beats the throw to the plate to win the game.
Sarah Kilgore gave up 6 hits and 2 earned runs in the 6 2/3 innings she pitched. Stacie Nelson was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Ashley Bryson went 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored.
In game 2, two costly errors allowing 2 unearned runs in the 5th caused the Lady Bulldogs to fall behind 0-4. Tennessee Wesleyan was able to cut the lead by Trevecca to 2 but they left two runners on in the 6th and 7th inning. Sarah Kilgore was the losing pitcher for Bulldogs pitching 5 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Brooke Ward was 1 for 3, with a double, RBI and a run scored. Rachele Moretto was also 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
