The Bulldogs are moving onto the final round of the AAC Tournament after defeating Virginia Intermont, 73-68. Tennessee Wesleyan will face Reinhardt University on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Reinhardt University won big, 80-55, over Bluefield College. In the regular season matchups between the two teams, the Bulldogs split, losing at Reinhardt, 69-76, but winning 62-54 at home.
Although the Bulldogs were able to score the first two points, it was Virginia Intermont who controlled the first half of the game. Tennessee Wesleyan found themselves in a hole, 8-15, that seemed to get deeper, 9-21, until one substitution turned things around for the Bulldogs. Senior, Jesse Booher came off the bench to score 15 points among a field goal by Desmond Crisp and Josh Gregory to pull within 5 points at halftime.
With Virginia Intermont not slowing down in the second half, the Bulldogs had to work to close the gap. Tennessee Wesleyan finally took the lead 52-51 with nine minutes left to play and never looked back. The Bulldogs lead by as much as 10 down the stretch but the Cobras rallied to cut the deficit to 71-68. Tennessee Wesleyan closed the books with the Bulldogs making 2 of 4 free throws to win 73-68.
Jesse Booher led the Bulldogs with a total of 17 points, going 4 for 8 from behind the arc and 3-3 from the Charity stripe. Desmond Crisp put in 16 and Quincy Scates netted 7. Shannon Smith scored 10 points all in the last 9 minutes. Matt Harper had 7 points and pulled down a team high 7 rebounds.
