Tennessee Wesleyan hosted former AAC competitor UVA-Wise for a single nine inning game on Tuesday. The Bulldogs opened up the scoring in the first inning with one, continued to gain the lead with 3 in the 3rd and 4th, extended it to 9-0 in the 6th and then won by the 10 run rule in the 7th with 4 more. The Bulldogs are now 21-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference.
In the bottom of the first Thomas Sicking reached on a walk and then advanced to 3rd on a wild throw. Anthony Boix also reached on a walk and then Stephen Branca hit a sac fly to score Sicking. Stephen Branca reached on a walk in the 3rd and then stole second. Jake Stone was hit by a pitch and then Taylor Oldham hit a 3 run homer.
Three more runs were scored in the 4th when Tanner Quirk and Sicking each hit a single to start the inning. Quirk scored on a wild throw and Sicking advanced to 2nd. Anthony Boix doubled to center to score Sicking and Jake Stone doubled to right to score Boix.
Anthony Boix was hit by a pitch to reach first, before Stephan Branca tripled to score him. Taylor Oldham reached base on a misplayed grounder and Branca scored the second run of the inning. Top of the 7th, UVA-Wise scored their only run leaving the Bulldogs needing two runs to end the game on the 10 run rule. Brackton Smith hit a single to left to start the inning. Zach Fleshman came in to pinch hit for Dale Ricketts and hit a single to right to advance Smith to 3rd. Tanner Quirk reached first on fielder's choice and Smith scored. Quirk advanced to second on a passed ball. Thomas Sicking singled to center to advance Quirk to 3rd. Brad Carpenter hit a 3 run homer to finish the game, 13-1.
The Bulldogs had 12 hits. Thomas Sicking was 2 for 4 with 3 runs scored. Taylor Oldham had one hit and 4 RBIs. Brad Carpenter had on hit and 3 RBIs. Levi Dean went the distance pitching all 7 innings with 12 strikeouts and only one walk and one run scored.
The Bulldogs host Tennessee Temple this afternoon at 2:00 pm.
