- Cross Country
The Bulldogs traveled to Cumberland University to play a single nine inning game. Previously in the season Tennessee Wesleyan defeated Cumberland 14-9 at home. The Bulldogs took an early lead scoring one in the first and second inning, and then two in the third to lead 4-0. However, Cumberland came back in the 4th and 5th inning to score 5 and 4 runs respectively. After scoring 2 runs in the fifth and sixth, the Bulldogs found themselves still trailing by one, 9-8. Cumberland scored one more in the 8th, but TWC was unable to score in the final 3 innings, leaving them defeated 10-8.
The Bulldogs scored their first run when Travis Burnside started off the game with a single and then stole second. He advanced to third when Anthony Boix grounded out to shortstop and then scored on a wild pitch. Drew Levi hit a home run to right center in the top of the second.
Anthony Boix walked and then Stephen Branca hit a double to advance Boix to third. Taylor Oldham reached base on an error by Cumberland which advanced Branca and allowed Boix to score the first run of the inning. Drew Levi reached by fielder's choice and Branca scored.
The Bulldogs 2 runs in the 5th came when Jake Stone hit a home run to right field after Branda singled. Jordan Guida started of the 6th inning with a single to the left side. Thomas Sicking was hit by a pitch and Travis Burnside hit a single to score Guida. Travis Burnside stole second and Thomas Sicking scored on the throw.
Tennessee Wesleyan had 11 hits but committed 5 errors. Stephen Branca had 4 hits including a double. Jake Stone and Drew Levi each hit a home run for the Bulldogs.
Levi Dean pitched the first four and a third innings giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits and striking out 2. Ben Crocker came in as relief to pitch 2 2/3 inning, striking out two and giving up one run. Zach Fleshman pitched 2 outs of the 8th and then Alfonso Yevoli came in to finish the 8th.
The Bulldogs travel to Bluefield College this weekend to play a double header on Saturday beginning at 1:00 pm and then a single nine inning game on Sunday at 1:00 pm. The Bulldogs are currently leading the conference at 9-0, whereas Bluefield is at the bottom with a 2-9 AAC record.
