The Bulldogs hosted Reinhardt University for the final weekend of AAC Regular Season play. Tennessee Wesleyan swept the series with a 19-1 win on Thursday, then 8-3 and 7-3 wins on Friday. In between the games on Friday, the Bulldogs celebrated the seniors on the team which included: Dale Ricketts, Taylor Oldham, Levi Dean, Stephen Branca, Anthony Boix, Tanner Quirk, Devin Paschal, Alfonso Yevoli, Ben Crocker, Corey Collins, Jordan Guida, Thomas Sicking, and Josh McDaniel.
Bulldogs 19, Eagles 1
A leadoff walk, single and fielder's choice gave Reinhardt a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Fitzgerald, however, would shut out the Eagles over the next five innings, facing just 11 batters and striking out eight. Reinhardt's lead was short-lived with the Bulldogs scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning. Travis Burnside singled, Brad Carpenter was hit by a pitch and Stephen Branca doubled home the tying run. A groundout put TWC up, 2-1, and that's when Mother Nature stepped in to foil the Eagles. With gusty winds blowing, three straight pop-ups resulted in an error and two balls off the bats of Dale Ricketts and Drew Levi dropping in for base hits, all producing runs and a 5-1 Wesleyan lead. Singles from Burnside and Branca, along with Jake Stone's hit added two more runs in the second for a 7-1 advantage. Levi homered to lead off the third. Thomas Sicking singled and later scored on Carpenter's hit for a 9-1 lead. Two hit-batsmen, singles from Jordan Guida and Levi, along with a sacrifice fly and groundout, chased home four more runs in the fourth. Up 13-1 going to the fifth, Berry went to his bench with Brackton Smith doubling, Devin Paschal and Tanner Quirk singling for a run and a three-run homer by Dale Ricketts. The inning continued when Levi singled, Sicking doubled and Burnside beat out an infield hit to load the bases. Carpenter's double plated the game's final two runs. Brady Frey relieved Fitzgerald to start the seventh and gave up three straight singles to load the bases. Frey, however, struck out the next two batters and Paschal ended the game by making a catch in foul territory as he somersaulted over the fence.
Fitzgerald picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits, struck out nine and walked one. Levi led the offense with four hits, driving in five runs and scoring three. Burnside had two hits, RBI, two runs scored; Carpenter two hits, three RBIs, run scored; Ricketts two hits, three RBIs, run scored and Stone one hit, three RBIs.
Bulldogs 8, Eagles 3
Wesleyan would hit three home runs, highlighted by Taylor Oldham's first-inning grand-slam. Anthony Boix and Stephen Branca singled, followed by a walk to Jake Stone that loaded the bases. Oldham's blast followed and TWC led, 4-0. Jordan Guida homered to lead off the fourth and Dale Ricketts singled, later scoring on a sacrifive fly from Tanner Quirk to put the Bulldogs up, 6-1. Branca's round tripper in the fifth gave TWC a 7-1 advantage. Reinhardt cut the deficit to 7-3 with two runs off reliever Corey Collins in the sixth, but Wesleyan added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a walk, Rickett's double and a throwing error.
Al Yevoli then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh. Culler allowed one run on four hits, while striking out four and walking two. Collins surrendered two runs on two hits and Yevoli struck out two. The Bulldogs had eight hits. Branca had two hits, RBI and two runs scored; Ricketts two hits; Oldham one hit, four RBIs, run scored; and Guida one hit, RBI, run scored.
Bulldogs 7, Eagles 3
A first-inning homer and third-inning single helped Reinhardt take a 2-0 lead. Wesleyan answered with three runs in the bottom of the third. Anthony Boix delivered a base-clearing double after Devin Paschal walked, Quirk singled and Thomas Sicking singled to load the bases. In the fourth, Oldham singled and Brackton Smith walked. Quirk doubled home a run and a throwing error on Sicking's grounder plated two more runners, for a 6-2 lead. Guida's single and Quirk's hit made it 7-2 in the sixth. Reinhardt's final run came off reliever Levi Dean in the seventh.
Rhoney picked up the win, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Ben Crocker went one hitless inning, striking out one and walking one. Dean gave up a run on two hits. Wesleyan had 11 hits, led by Quirk with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Guida had two hits, run scored; Sicking three hits, RBI, run scored; and Boix one hit, three RBIs.
The Bulldogs play in the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, TN this week with their first game on Tuesday at 7:30 pm against Virginia Intermont.
