The Tennessee Wesleyan College Men's and Woman's soccer programs were proudly in attendance at the unveiling of a bench in honor of former player and student assistant coach Santiago Snellgrose.
Santi came to TWC from McMinn County high school in 2004 and soon became the first name on TWC's team sheet. He was a four year starter for the men's soccer team from 2004-2008 where he was named on numerous all conference teams and was TWC's captain. Santi led by example on and off the field and was a friend to anyone who knew him. After completing his four years of soccer he stayed on at TWC as the student assistant coach for the woman's program while he was completing his degree, which he did in May of 2009. Santi also played for the Nashville Metro's Soccer Club.
Santi tragically passed away in September of 2009 in a boating accident and his loss was felt not only by TWC, but throughout the Athens community.
The bench in Santi's honor was placed on the hill where his family used to watch him play for TWC. In attendance for the unveiling ceremony were members of the current and previous TWC soccer teams, Santi's mother Lourdes, father Glen, sister Megan, TWC athletic director Donny Mayfield, the current TWC coaching staff, and a number of others who knew and were friends with Santi.
TWC and the Snellgrose family would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the placing of Santi's bench possible. Santi will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
