Tennessee Wesleyan College men's soccer team played a home conference game on Saturday against Montreat College. Montreat had knocked TWC out of last seasons Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament and advanced to last years NAIA national tournament.
The game started brightly for TWC, they had a lot of possession and created a number of chances. Montreats goal keeper was keeping them in the game, pulling off a string of excellent saves. TWC finally took the lead after thirty seven minutes when Pedro Alba's shot was saved by the Montreat keeper, the rebound fell again to Alba who was fouled as he tried to turn and hit the ball towards goal. TWC's Luke Winter stepped up to take the penalty kick and hammered the ball into the back of the net. At half time the game was TWC 1 Montreat 0.
TWC started the second half in the same manner they had finished the first, they scored their second goal of the game when Luke Winter won a free kick on the right wing, John Carrier delivered a perfect ball onto the head of Winter who timed his run to perfection and headed the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net.
TWC third of the game came in the fifty ninth minute when Laurence Hutchinson pressured the Montreat center back, he picked his pocket and drove to the goal line, Hutchinson pulled the ball back to Luke Winter who side footed his shot into the corner of the goal to complete his hat trick.
TWC scored again after seventy seven minutes when Stefano Barriga took the ball of the Montreat defense. He drove with the ball into the box, beat a man and rounded the keeper to make it 4-0 to TWC.
