The Bulldogs were off to a slow start on Saturday against Union College but finished the game defeating the AAC foe 90-77. The Bulldogs are now 2-1 in the conference.
Wesleyan trailed, 19-8, eight minutes into the game. Matt Harper and Zamarius McClendon converted three-point plays as the Bulldogs crept back into the game. Down 25-20, the Dogs went on a 12-0 run that included a three-point play by McClendon, four points by Harper, a bucket from Josh Williams and dunk by Dante Turnipseed to lead, 32-25. Union responded with 10 unanswered points to regain the lead, 35-32. Harper again started a Wesleyan rally with a 3-pointer. Five points by McClendon and a driving layup at the buzzer by Shannon Smith gave the Bulldogs a 42-39 advantage at the intermission
The teams traded points with the score knotted three times through the first seven minutes of second half. Leading 59-57, Wesleyan took control of the game for good with a 10-0 streak, capped by a 3-pointer from Dante Turnipseed that opened a 12-point gap, 69-57, with 10 minutes to play. TWC's biggest lead was 17 points on a Shannon Smith dunk with seven minutes remaining.
Zamarius McClendon put in season high 32 points for the Bulldogs and pulled down 17 rebounds. Matt Harper had 22 points, seven rebounds and Smith contributed 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds.
The Bulldogs travel to Dayton on December 7th and 8th to play in the Bryan College Classic. They play at 6:00 pm against Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Friday and the against Selma University at 2:00 pm on Saturday.
