The Lady Bulldogs hosted Virginia Intermont on Thursday night. Both teams were 3-2 in the AAC coming into the game, but VI was coming off a victory over Union College, while the Lady Bulldogs has just suffered a loss at Columbia.
Tennessee Wesleyan took an early led when Michelle Davis netted Wesleyan's first eight points and Cody Houck drained a "3" to go up 11-7. Heather Gibson had four points, followed by four straight 3-points baskets, two by Jaryn Davis and one each from Davis and Houck, to keep TWC in front, 27-23. The Lady Bulldogs continued to hold the lead at halftime, 38-31, when Alli Moreland and Michelle Davis added 3s to the board.
After 3 pointers by Alli Moreland and Jaryn Davis to open the second half, the Lady Cobras pulled to even the score at 46. The Lady Bulldogs pulled back ahead with a free throw by Courtney Gobble, six points by Michelle Davis and Cody Houck added five with five minutes to play.
Virginia Intermont pulled within three, 64-61, with 34 seconds left in the game. Michelle Davis pulled down a rebound, from a missed free throw shot by Heather Gibson, and was fouled. She sank both free throws to give the Lady Bulldogs a five point lead, which VI could not overcome in the final seconds.
Michelle Davis finished the game with 30 points and 7 rebounds. Cody Houck put in 14 points and pulled down 8 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Milligan College on Saturday where they will take on the Lady Buffaloes who are currently leading the conference with a record of 6-0 in the Conference.
