Tennessee Wesleyan and Virginia Intermont both entered the game on Thursday night with a 3-1 conference record, but the Bulldogs defeated the Cobras, 110-85.
The Bulldogs took the lead 7-6, with a goal by Tyler Burse, and although VI tied it at 9-9, the Bulldogs never trailed again. Tennessee Wesleyan extended that lead to 11 points with seven points by Zamairus McClendon and scoring by Matt Harper and Desmond Crisp. The half ended with the Bulldogs leading 54-44.
Three minutes into the second half, point guard E'Jay Ward took control of the game, scoring, stealing an inbound pass to score again, then assisted Desmond Crisp on a basket after another steal. Matt Harper got another steal which resulted in a free throw by E'Jay Ward as Wesleyan went in front, 67-49.
Shannon Smith, came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers, Derek Triplett added two more treys and Tyler Burse had six straight points as the Bulldogs pulled away to the 25-point margin of victory.
Desmond Crisp finished with 20 points. Zamarius McClendon had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Derek Triplett also collected 17 points. Tyler Burse put in 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Shannon Smith contributed 12 points. Dante Turnipseed had 11 points while Matt Harper had 10 points. E'Jay Ward collected seven points, six assists and six steals.
The Bulldogs travel to Milligan College on Saturday to play at 4:00 pm.
