It turned out to be a great senior day for the Bulldogs as they defeated Milligan 114-84 and clinched first place in the AAC Regular season with only two games remaining.
The teams traded buckets through the first five minutes with E'Jay Ward scoring six points before Tyler Burse gave TWC the lead for good at 16-15. Burse followed a Crisp layup with seven straight points, including a "3", and when Dante Turnipseed drained a trey at the 11:33 mark, the Bulldogs led, 28-17. Shannon Smith came off the bench to score eight points and Crisp had a pair of dunks among six points, helping Wesleyan extend the halftime margin to 18, 54-36.
Tyler Burse's 3-pointer early in the second half padded the lead to 24, 68-44, but Milligan sliced the gap to 12, 76-64, with 10 minutes to play. Zamarius McLendon had four points; Smith hit a "3" and converted a three-point play; and Burse had a trey among five points, pushing the lead back to 17 before Wesleyan went on a 20-7 run over the final five minutes.
Tyler Burse tallied 20 points, Desmond Crisp 19 and Zamarius McLendon 18. Shannon Smith also had 18 points to go with seven assists, while Ward had 14 points, eight assists and six steals.
The Bulldogs will host Montreat for the BLUE OUT on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
