The Bulldogs hosted Indiana Tech this past weekend and swept the series with a 7-6, 4-1, and 3-1 win over the Warriors.
In the first game, Indiana Tech used a walk and two extra basehits off starter Corey Rhoney to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Wesleyan evened the score in the bottom of the inning with a Travis Burnside double and David Donald's home run. Trey Griffin's hit and Brackton Smith's RBI single put TWC on top, 3-2 in the second. The Warriors got a two-run homer in the third to go in front, 4-3, and snapped a 4-4 tie with a run in the fourth. Indiana Tech went ahead again with a run in the top of the seventh to lead, 6-5. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Logan Dalton walked, Jake Stone singled and Donald's hit chased the tying run home. With two outs, Trey Griffin then singled home the game-winning run.
Corey Rhoney went four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, while striking out five and walking two. Brady Frey picked up the win, surrendering one run on one hit with four strikeouts over three innings.
Tyler Wilson started for Wesleyan in the second game of the day and fell behind 1-0 in the second, thanks to two errors. Wilson, however, would blank Tech over the next five innings and reliever Noah Piard would pitch a scoreless seventh. Wesleyan tied the game without the benefit of a hit in the third. The two go-ahead runs came in the fifth on a walk, hits by Josh McCray and Brad Carpenter and a sacrifice fly. Wesleyan added an insurance run in the sixth. Wesleyan had five hits, two by Logan Dalton.
On Saturday, the Bulldogs again went ahead without getting a hit, scoring on a walk, two hit-batsmen and a groundout in the second. The Warriors' only run off TWC starter Jarrod Jameson came in the third inning. A leadoff error, followed by two hits and walk plated a run and had the bases loaded with nobody out. Jamerson, however, then struck out the side, leaving the game tied at one.
David Donald's leadoff single, a hit-batsman and sacrifice bunt came in front of a sacrifice fly by Brackton Smith to put TWC ahead, 2-1, in the fourth. The Bulldogs' final run came in the sixth after two were out when Wes Minton singled and raced home on a double by Brackton Smith.
Jarrod Jameson went seven innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, while striking out seven and walking two. Zach Fleshman earned a save with two innings of hitless relief, striking out one and walking one.
The Bulldogs face Lindsey Wilson on Wednesday at home beginning at 1:00 pm for a double header.
