The seeds and pairings are set for the 2013 Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament with play tipping off on Wednesday in Kingsport, Tenn.
The tournament opens Wednesday with the play-in game and concludes on Saturday with the championship. The event is being held at the MeadowView Marriott Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
Tennessee Wesleyan (22-7 overall, 15-1 AAC) is the regular-season champion and top-seeded team for the tournament. Point (19-10 overally, 10-6 AAC) is the No. 2 seed. Milligan (17-12 overall) and Bryan (13-15 overall) tied for No. 3 seed as both finished with 9-7 conference marks. Bryan claims the third seed by winning the tie-breaker of Milligan based on conference road wins.
Reinhardt (11-15 overall), Union (15-13 overall) and Virginia Intermont (14-15 overall) all finished 8-8 in league play, but Reinhardt is the No. 5 seed since it has a 3-1 record against Union and Virginia Intermont combined. Union is the sixth seed since it has a win over Reinhardt and Virginia Intermont does not. Montreat (9-19 overall, 4-12 AAC) and St. Andrews (1-23 overall, 1-15 AAC) are the eighth and ninth seeds, respectively.
The tournament begins Wednesday with Montreat taking on St. Andrews at 3:30 p.m. The winner will play No. 1 Tennessee Wesleyan Thursday at 12 p.m. No. 4 Milligan and No. 5 Reinhardt square off at 1:45 p.m., while No. 2 Point plays No. 7 Virginia Intermont at 7:30 p.m. The quarterfinal round concludes with No. 3 Bryan facing No. 6 Union at 9:15 p.m.
The semifinal round games are set for Friday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The championship is set for Saturday at 4 p.m.
