The Bulldogs host Indiana University Southeast on Saturday and Sunday for a 3-game series. The teams played a nine inning single game on Saturday and a 7 inning double header on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs swept the series winning 12-2 on Saturday and then 3-1 and 2-1 on Sunday.
In the first game, TWC starter Jarrod Jameson's arm kept IU-Southeast in check through the first six innings, allowing only one earned run, and the Bulldogs' bats put the Grenadiers away in the final three innings, scoring nine times on four home runs and a bases-loaded triple. Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Drew Levi singled and Brackton Smith followed with a home run. An error and David Donald's single snapped a 2-2 tie in the fifth. A hit-batsman, walk and Brad Carpenter's hit preceded a three-run triple by Wes Minton in the sixth and Jake Stone singled home a run for a 7-2 lead in the sixth. Hunter Hall hit a two-run dinger in the seventh and the Bulldogs got back-to-back-to-back solo home runs from Stone, Donald and Levi in the eighth. Wesleyan had 15 hits with two each from Travis Burnside, Minton, Stone, Donald, Levi and Logan Dalton. Minton had three RBIs, while Stone, Donald, Smith and Hall added two each.
Raising his season record to 4-0, Jameson went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out six, walking two and hitting a batter. Justin Sprenger (two strikeouts, one walk), Brian Bardis and Josh Culler (one strikeout, one walk) each pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
On Sunday, Wesleyan scored in the first on Stone's single, a stolen base and throwing error. In the third, a walk, stolen base and Stone's hit made it 2-0. The third run came in the fourth when Levi doubled, moved to third on a bunt and came home on Dalton's groundout. Corey Rhoney shut out IU-Southeast until the sixth, allowing a run on two hits before Noah Piard came on in relief to get the final out and pitch a 1-2-3 seventh.
Rhoney went 5 2/3 innings, giving up one run on four hits, while striking out five and walking one. Piard picked up the save, striking out three.
Wesleyan had only two hits and neither figured in the first run in the final game. A hit-batsman, stolen base, sacrifice fly and groundout gave TWC a run in the second inning. Wes Minton hit a solo home run in the third for a 2-0 advantage. Tyler Wilson blanked the Grenadiers before needing relief help from Zach Fleshman, who came on to get the final two outs in the fifth.
Brady Frey pitched a scoreless sixth and Piard was called on in the seventh. Paird surrendered a run on back-to-back doubles before getting the final two outs.
Wilson surrendered two hits, struck out seven and walked two over 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win.
The Bulldogs will play at home on Wednesday, February 27th at 2:00 pm against Georgia Gwinnett, before they open up Conference play on March 2nd and 3rd against St. Andrews.
