ASHEVILLE, N.C. - David Escobosa of Tennessee Wesleyan and Ekaterina Vezhenkova of Tennessee Wesleyan are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.

This is the first tennis weekly awards of the season, and the first honors either Escobosa and Vezhenkova have received.

Escobosa helped the Bulldogs to a 2-1 record last week as he went 2-1 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles. Tennessee Wesleyan's lone defeat was a 9-0 decision to No. 11-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.).

Playing in the No. 2 singles position, the junior from Santiago, Chile, won matches against Cumberlands (Ky.) and Covenant (Ga.) by the identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. He won his doubles match against Covenant 8-0 as well.

Escobosa is 6-2 in both singles and doubles play. Tennessee Wesleyan is 4-4 on the year.

Vezhenkova won all five - three singles and two doubles - matches she played in this week, including picking up singles and doubles wins against 20th-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.). Tennessee Wesleyan went 1-2 on the week, losing to Cumberlands (Ky.) and Cumberland.

Playing No. 1 singles and doubles, the junior from St. Petersburg, Russia, won all three of her sinlges matches and both doubles matches to improve to 9-0 in singles play and 8-1 in doubles on the year.

The Lady Bulldogs are 6-3 on the season.

The next AAC tennis awards will be announced on March 25.
