Tennessee Wesleyan College baseball has had a long standing tradition of sending current players off to play in college summer leagues. This past summer has been no different, five current bulldogs set out after the conclusion of the 2013 season for various teams throughout the country. As the summer is coming to a close and the fall semester is beginning here is a look at how these players did.
COASTAL PLAINS LEAGUE
Jarrod Jameson is a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. The Oklahoma City, Oklahoma native spent his second summer in the Coastal Plains League with the Martinsville Mustangs. The right handed pitcher had a stellar 2013 season for the Bulldogs going 14-0, with a 2.57 earned run average in 91.0 innings to go along with 77 strikeouts in 16 starts. He was named to the All AAC First Team and AAC Pitcher of the Year. At the conclusion of the 2013 season Jarrod was honored as an NAIA 1st Team All American. For Martinsville this summer Jameson made 10 starts with a 4-3 record. In 53.2 innings of work he fanned 34 batters and ended the summer with a 2.35 earned run average.
Wes Minton is a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. The Loveland, Ohio native spent the summer in the Coastal Plains League with the Martinsville Mustangs. The everyday shortstop for the Bulldogs in 2013 was named as the Most Valuable Player of the AAC Tournament. In 63 games Minton hit .318 with 7 homeruns and 40 runs batted in. For the Mustangs, Wes hit .179 with 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in only 17 games. A summer ending hand injury cut his season in Martinsville short. Wes is healthy now and is looking forward to a big senior year.
Brent Adheen is a rising senior this season for the Bulldogs. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native spent the summer in the Coastal Plains League with the Petersburg Generals. A mid-week starter a year ago for Wesleyan ended the 2013 season with a 2-4 record and a 4.33 earned run average. In 62.1 innings Adheen had 56 strikeouts in 11 starts. For Petersburg Brent threw 15.1 innings with 18 strikeouts and 2 saves in 8 appearances with 2 starts.
FLORIDA FUTURES LEAGUE
Brad Carpenter is a rising junior this season for the Bulldogs. The Franklin, Tennessee native spent the summer in the Florida Futures League with the Winter Park Warthogs. Brad was a member of the 2012 Avista NAIA National Championship team. In 2013 he made 44 starts all at second base hitting .314 with 10 doubles and 22 runs batted in. Winter Park won the 2013 Futures League Championship and Carpenter was selected to play in the 2013 Futures League All Star Game where he went 2-4. This summer for the Warthogs he hit .214 with 1 double and 3 runs batted in to go along with 7 stolen bases.
Tyler Wilson is a rising senior this season for the bulldogs. The Gaffney, South Carolina native spent the summer in the Prospect League with the Slippery Rock Sliders. Tyler made 19 appearances with 4 starts in 2013 for TWC. He ended the year with a 3-4 record in 41.0 innings pitched with 58 strikeouts and a 3.51 earned run average. For the Sliders he made 10 appearances with 6 of those being starts. He ended the summer with 40 strikeouts in 33.2 innings of work.
