LADY BULLDOGS SPLIT WITH UVA-WISE
Softball - Thu, Apr. 2, 2009
After having to rearrange scheduling for the softball team because of weather the Lady Bulldogs played UVA-Wise in a conference matchup yesterday. The Lady Bulldogs split the series winning game one 1-0 and lost game two 5-2. The Lady Bulldogs are 2-4 in AAC play and 9-13 overall. They are on the road today playing at University of the Cumberlands in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00.
In game one TWC scored the only run of the game when Ashton Burrell homered in the first inning. Brittany Fox had a perfect game going for 6 1/3 innings. Fox struck out the first batter of the 6th, the second batter hit a "blop" single over second, struck out the third batter. The next batter hit a deep fly ball to center. The ball appeared to be a homerun for UVA-Wise, but a controversial call was made ruling the hit as a ground rule double. The next Wise batter on a 2-3 count with two outs popped up to short and TWC won 1-0.
In game two the Lady Cavs had a two-run homer to pull ahead of the Lady Bulldogs 4-0 in the top of the third. Wise added one more run in the fourth before the Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the sixth and seventh for a final score Wise 5 and TWC 2. Paige Goins was the losing pitcher in game two.
The Lady Bulldogs play Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday at home beginning at 3:00.
