ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Christa Rogers of Tennessee Wesleyan and Kaitlyn Poulakis of Tennessee Wesleyan are the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Rogers is the Defensive Player of the Week, while Poulakis is the Offensive Player of the Week.
Rogers has been the rock of TWC's defense since the start of season. This week she led TWC to a clean sheet with two shut outs in conference play that only allowed a total of 7 shots in 180 minutes of soccer. She played a monumental role in limiting local conference rival Bryan College 4 shots (only 1 shot on goal) the entire 90 minutes of the midweek game. She then played another 90 minutes in the away VIC game limiting VIC to only 3 shots.
Poulakis scored 3 goals as well as added 2 assists in TWC's sweep of their conference games this week. Poulakis assisted the game winner and scored the final two goals in the 4-0 win over Bryan College during the week. She then scored the first goal & assisted the 3rd in TWC's 3-0 win over VIC on Saturday.
This is the sixth edition of the weekly honor. The next players of the week awards will be announced on Oct. 21.
