ASHEVILLE, N.C. - There no surprises in the opening round of the 2013 Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament as all the higher seeds won to advance to the quarterfinal round.
Of the three games, two resulted in shutouts with the other resulting in a one-goal nail-biter.
No. 7 Union (7-10 overall) received a hat trick from Aline Dalmedico to send the Bulldogs past No. 10 Bryan (6-11-1 overall) 4-0.
Karla Gonzalez scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 16th minute as No. 8 St. Andrews (7-11 overall) defeated No. 9 Point (4-13-2) 2-0.
Up 1-0, Lindsey Ogle scored what proved to be an important goal for No. 6 Milligan (7-10-1 overall) as it took a 2-0 lead in the 88th minute. No. 11 Virginia Intermont (2-14-1 overall made things interesting when Chelsea Seng scored with 37 seconds remaining. However, the Lady Cobras could not get the equalizer as Milligan held on for the 2-1 win.
With these matches now complete, the quarterfinal schedule is set with three games on Saturday and one on Sunday. The schedule goes as follows:
Saturday, November 9 - Played at Higher Seed's Home Site
Game 4 - No. 6 Milligan (7-10-1) at No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan (9-7-1) - 12 p.m.
Game 5 - No. 7 Union (7-10) at No. 2 Montreat (11-6) - 12 p.m.
Game 6 - No. 5 Columbia (13-5) at No. 4 Truett-McConnell (9-6-1) - 12 p.m.
Sunday, November 10
Game 7 - No. St. Andrews (7-11) 3 at No. 1 Reinhardt (12-3-2) - 1 p.m.
