ASHEVILLE, N.C. - It was not a good day for the home teams as the lower seeds all advanced in the opening round of the 2013 Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
No. 9 St. Andrews and No. 8 Reinhardt battled for 110 minutes, but the match ended in a 2-2 tie. However, St. Andrews (5-10-3 overall) advanced to the quarterfinal round by winning on penalty kicks 4-2. Reinhardt ends the year with a 5-8-3 record.
In the other opening round match, No. 10 Union received a pair of goals from Alex Smith to defeat No. 7 Milligan (3-14 overall) 3-1. Union is now 8-8-3 on the year.
The quarterfinal round is now set, and the matchups are as follows:
