The Bulldogs got two conference wins over the Thanksgiving break. TWC hosted Milligan College on Tuesday and pulled out a 97-90 win and then won 78-58 on the road at Truett-McConnell.
The Buffaloes got off to a quick start, leading 20-9, but TWC battled back to tie the game at 32 on a 3-pointer from Shannon Smith. The Bulldogs fell behind again by the intermission, 47-41. Tyler Burse, Smith and Andrew Scofield drained treys as the Bulldogs edged in front, 60-56, and twice opened nine-point gaps. The Buffaloes climbed back within one, 76-75, with 7:14 to play. Scofield canned another trey as TWC went on an 8-2 run and sealed the game at the free throw line.
Scofield led five Bulldogs in double figures with 21 points. Shannon Smith and Tyler Burse added 19 each; Devante Jenkins 16 and Dante Turnipseed 13. Burse collected 11 rebounds and Jenkins nine, while Scofield had four steals and Turnipseed nine assists.
On Saturday, Shannon Smith's "3" tied the game at five. Tyler Burse converted a free throw then drained a pair of 3-pointers in front of another Smith bucket for a 14-8 lead. Tennessee Wesleyan padded the margin to nine before the Bears rallied and it took a Devante Jenkins basket in the closing seconds to keep TWC in front at the break, 34-27.
The teams continued to trade baskets in the second half with the Bulldogs still on top, 46-41, at the 13:11 mark. Andrew Scofield tossed in six points and Dante Turnipseed a trey to highlight a 9-0 game-breaking run, opening a 15-point gap with 9:19 left on the clock.
Andrew Scofield paced the Bulldogs with 21 points. Burse had 17 points, eight rebounds, three steals; Smith 14 points, six assists, three steals and Jenkins 10 points, 11 rebounds.
The Bulldogs travel To University of Alabama-Huntsville tonight to play at 8:00 pm.
