The Lady Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five with a win over Point University on Wednesday night. Tennessee Wesleyan took an early lead and defeated the Lady Skyhawks, 59-46.
The Lady Bulldogs started the game with a 16-4 run getting five points from Shira Buley; a 3-point field goal from Courtney Gobble; four points from Cody Houck; two free throws from Armeka Booker and bucket by Kelsey Young. The lead grew to 15 on a Booker basket at the 7:41 mark and Gobble's driving layup padded the advantage to 16, 37-21, at the intermission.
Point, however, scored on its first five possessions of the second half, needing just three minutes to slice the deficit to five, 37-32. TWC finally got a stop on defense and Booker scored inside as the Lady Bulldogs began a 10-1 streak to regain control, 47-33. Booker added two more free throws, while Buley and Sarah McKinnon each had three points in the run. Wesleyan's advantage never dipped below double digits again.
By allowing just 46 points, TWC further lowered its 53-point scoring defense per game average, second best in the nation among NAIA Division II teams.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to Montreat College on Saturday to play at 5:30 pm.
