After the loss to Virginia Intermont on Saturday, the Bulldogs were hoping for a win over Point to not fall further in the AAC standings. Tennessee Wesleyan trailed early but managed to comeback en route to a 83-72 win over Point.
Wesleyan trailed 9-7 when substitutions were made and then 17-8 when the starting five were put back in. Shannon Smith had back-to-back baskets; Tyler Burse scored inside and Devante Jenkins had four points. A second Burse bucket gave the Bulldogs a 20-19 lead. A 3-pointer from Andrew Scofield opened a six-point advantage at 28-22, but Point pulled even again at 32. Buckets from Scofield and Jenkins allowed TWC to lead, 36-32, at the half.
The Bulldogs came out after intermission, using its press to force three turnovers and outscored Point, 13-2, in the first five minutes. Smith led the way with eight points, including a 3-pointer. Dante Turnipseed and Burse added two points each and Jenkins one. Point made another run, climbing within six, 53-47, with 9:53 to play. The Bulldogs eventually pushed the lead back to 15 the bench was cleared in the final two minutes.
Tyler Burse paced the offense with 29 points, while collecting a team-high 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. Shannon Smith netted 15 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists; Devante Jenkins 15 points, nine rebounds, six steals and Andrew Scofield 11 points.
The Bulldogs travel to Montreat College on Saturday for a 7:30 pm tip off.
