Union arrived to James L Robb gymnasium on a nine game winning streak and was able to extend that 10 with their win over the Bulldogs 74-88.
Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind, 9-2; bounced back to lead, 14-12, and dropped behind again, 25-17. The deficit was still eight, 37-29, before the Bulldogs made a comeback. Tyler Burse had six straight points; Andrew Scofield and Shannon Smith buckets and Dante Turnipseed buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer, dragging TWC within one, 43-42.
Dante Turnipseed started the second half with a dunk for the Bulldogs and then the teams battled back and forth. Neither team had more than a four-point advantage and found themselves tied at 65. Union, however, went on a lightning-quick, 15-4, run over the next two minutes and the Bulldogs never recovered.
Tyler Burse led five Bulldogs in double figures with 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Devante Jenkins had 15 points, 10 rebounds; Dante Turnipseed 12 points; Andrew Scofield 11 points and Shannon Smith 10 points, 10 assists
The Bulldogs will play on Tuesday against Tennessee Temple at 7:30 pm before returning to AAC action on Saturday against St. Andrews University at 2:00 pm.
