To remain on top the Lady Bulldogs needed a win on Saturday over Union who was closely behind them with a record of 11-2 and while TWC was 12-2. Tennessee Wesleyan got that win, 67-62.
After Cody Houck knotted the score at 15, the Lady 'Dogs went scoreless for the next five minutes as Union pulled in front, 25-15. Bailey Lyness ended the drought with a 3-pointer at the 6:08 mark. Madison McWilliams scored inside; Armeka Booker on a free throw; McWilliams a three-point play and Marissa Hill a bucket before Houck's layup put TWC in front, 28-27. The teams were deadlocked at 29 going into half time.
Cody Houck had four points and Shira Buley and Armeka Booker two each as Wesleyan started the second half on an 8-0 run. The margin widened to 10, 48-38, on a 3-pointer by Houck. Union rallied and eventually knotted the score at 55 and again at 58 with 3:14 to play. Booker then hit two free throws, poached a pass and hit one more free throw to give TWC a 61-58 lead. Courtney Gobble hit three of four free throws, Alli Moreland two and Booker one to preserve the five-point victory.
Cody Houck finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Armeka Booker had 15 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Bailey Lyness netted eight points, while Alli Moreland, Madison McWilliams and Courtney Gobble tallied seven each.
The Lady Bulldogs will host Tennessee Temple tomorrow night at 5:30 pm and then Talladega on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
