The Bulldogs ended the game 82-75, winning over the Lions of Bryan College on Saturday. Tennessee Wesleyan is now 11-5 in the conference and currently in third place.
A three-point play by Tyler Burse and 3-point field goal from Shannon Smith helped Wesleyan to take an early, 12-4, lead. The Lions regrouped to go in front, 20-18, and padded that lead to six at the break, 36-30. Burse had seven straight points, including a "3", and Andrew Scofield's trey accounted for the scoring as Wesleyan opened the second half on a 10-2 run to slip in front, 40-38, and would not trail again.
Andrew Scofield, Tyler Burse, Devante Jenkins and Derek Hosey all counted as TWC built its biggest lead of the game at 12, 53-41, with 13 minutes to play. The Lions chipped away, climbing within three on three occasions, the last coming with 90 ticks remaining on the clock. Smith then sandwiched four free throws around a miss from Bryan as Wesleyan held on for the seven-point win.
Wesleyan converted 21 of 26 free throws, while Bryan made good on 26 of 35 attempts.
Burse paced the offense with 22 points. Smith netted 20 points, four steals; Jenkins 14 points, 13 rebounds; Scofield 12 points and Hosey two points, nine assists.
The Bulldogs travel to Virginia Intermont on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm game.
