The Bulldogs hosted Indiana University Southeast for a three game series on Friday and Saturday. TWC went 1-2 for the series winning only the final game with the Grenadiers.
In the first game two errors led to a pair of unearned runs and the Bulldogs had two runners picked off base in the same inning, allowing the Grenadiers to lead, 4-1, going to the third frame. In a three-run second, Wesleyan failed to get an out twice on what would have been inning-ending double play groundballs. The Bulldogs run had come on an error, passed ball and groundout. TWC starter Josh Clemen took matters into his own hands, striking out the next five batters he faced while holding IUS scoreless for four innings.
The Bulldogs had drawn even in the fifth. Two walks and an error loaded the bases in front of James Boddicker's two-out, bases-clearing double. TWC took a 6-4 lead in the sixth. K.J. Hockaday and Matt Malloy singled with Cody Heifnar delivering a two-run hit. Logan Longwith gave up a run in the 7th and the Grenadiers, aided by two more Wesleyan errors, chased five runs home in the 8th off relievers Ty Powell and Brandon Landrie. Two more unearned runs came in the 9th against reliever Matthew Payne for a 12-6 lead.
The Bulldogs scored twice in the 9th, but had just one hit, a single by Logan Dalton. The Bulldogs lost 8-12.
Heifnar had two of Wesleyan's eight hits, scoring one run and driving in two. Boddicker had a hit and sacrifice fly to drive in four runs.
Powell took the loss with Wesleyan pitchers giving up 14 hits, walking three, hitting four batters, surrendering 12 runs (only seven earned) and striking out 13.
The teams combined for 10 errors, six of those belonging to the Bulldogs.
In the first game on Saturday, TWC scored three runs in the first on Boddicker's RBI single and a two-run double by K.J. Hockaday. The Bulldogs, however, would have only two more hits over the next six innings. Alex Pridemore shut out IUS until the 5th when a mishandled ball helped start a four-running inning. The Grenadiers added two more runs in the sixth off Logan Longwith and Ty Powell.
Pridemore took the loss, 3-6, allowing four runs on just two hits and struck out five, but also walked five.
Bulldogs got an 8-5 win in the final game with IU Southeast. Tennessee Wesleyan scored five runs in the second, three coming on a home run by Malloy following singles from Tim Kiene and Hockaday. Doubles by Heifnar and Shell McCain, a single from Ryan Phillips and an error produced the remaining two runs. Dalton doubled and Hockaday singled in a three-run fourth for an 8-0 lead.
TWC starter Tyler Wilson took a no-hitter into the 6th when a two-out error opened the door for three runs, chasing Wilson and bringing Ty Powell on in relief. IUS added two more runs in the final inning and had the tying runs on base before the final out was recorded. Wilson picked up the win, allowing three runs (none earned) on two hits, striking out five, walking three and hitting two batters. Hockaday had two of TWC's eight hits and Malloy drove in four runs.
