Tennessee Wesleyan would like to welcome new Head Volleyball Coach, Ashley Sutrick to the athletics department. Sutrick comes to TWC from Maryville College where she was an assistant coach. Previous to Maryville, Sutrick was an assistant coach for a high school in Columbus, GA.
Sutrick played volleyball and softball at Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin. In volleyball, she was a four-year starter and team captain her senior year when she led the team in blocks and was second in kills. She graduated from Stritch in 2008 with a major in sports management and a minor in communications.
Sutrick is currently engaged to Ian Harris who is a football coach at Maryville College. They met in Green Bay, but he got another job opportunity here in the South. We were actually were in Columbus, Ga., first and he was working with an arena football team there. Then we both found opportunities at Maryville College. We both applied, we were both hired in 2012 and we have been in the area ever since."
Sutrick has met with members of the team already so that they can get to know each other. From now until the season starts the players will be in the weight room and practicing. "I am very excited about getting started," Sutrick said. "I am excited for myself in seeing how far I can grow and excited to see what the girls can do with the new change. Some teams are great with change and some teams aren't, so we are going to work together as a unit and see what we are capable of doing. I am looking forward to it."
Her first impression of the team is that the Lady Bulldogs have talent. The most important thing is to get them working together. Even though the goal is to improve the team's record, she wants the team to get better in all areas.
"There is a lot of room for growth," Sutrick said. "Wins will be great, but as a team, we hope we can grow and be able to say at the end of the season that we did some really great things regardless of what our record may look like. We want our record to be on an upswing, of course, but even more than that, we want our team to grow."
Sutrick is the daughter of Jerry and Kathy Sutrick. She has a twin brother, Adam, and a younger sister, Hailey.
