KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan used a big second half rally to open up a comfortable margin to cruise to a 68-52 win over No. 9 seed Truett-McConnell in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal round on Thursday.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs (24-3 overall) move on to the semifinal round to face the winner of the No. 4 Milligan-No. 5 Montreat game on Friday at 6 p.m.
Truett-McConnell ends the season at 9-18 overall.
Tennessee Wesleyan used a 5-2 spurt to close the first half in taking a 29-22 lead into the break. The Lady Bulldogs came out of the half rolling, hitting their first six 3-point attempts of the period in building a 52-31 lead by the 13:53 mark.
The Lady Bears tried to make a run but could only cut the deficit down to 12 at 64-52. Tennessee Wesleyan scored the final four points to wrap up the tournament win.
Cody Houck paced Tennessee Wesleyan with 22 points, going 6-for-10 from 3-point range. Armeka Booker followed with 10 points, and Shira Buley dished out 12 assists.
