The Bulldogs opened AAC play this past weekend at Point University and swept the series winning, 14-1, 2-0, and 7-2.
On Friday night, Josh Clemen went seven strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks. Logan Longwith tossed a scoreless eighth.
The Bulldogs took control with a five-run second inning. Matt Malloy led off the inning with a home run. Singles from Cody Heifnar, James Boddicker, Shell McCain and Wes Minton, along with a double from Tim Kiene, and a Point error produced the other four runs. Tennessee Wesleyan added single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh frames with one of those coming on a home run from David Donald.
TWC ended the game under the 10-run rule with four more hits in a five-run eighth.
McCain led the attack with five hits, scoring three runs. Kiene had two hits, two RBIs; K.J. Hockaday two hits; Heifnar two hits, two runs scored; two RBIs and Donald two hits, two runs scored, three RBIs.
On saturday in the first game of the doubleheader, Brent Adheen scattered five hits over six innings, striking out two and walking four. Tyler Wilson earned the save with a strikeout and hitting one batter in the seventh.
TWC took a 1-0 lead in the third when Bryon Haag singled and Minton doubled, scoring pinch-runner Branden Walker. The Bulldogs added a run in the seventh when Haag hammered a 3-2 pitch over the fence in left. Haag had two of Wesleyan's six hits. Minton, returning to the lineup in this series after missing the past three weeks with a leg injury, also had two hits.
In the final game, Alex Pridemore gave up a first-inning home run, but limited Point to just three hits over the next five innings, while striking out six and walking four. Ty Powell gave up a run on two hits in the seventh.
Singles by McCain and Kiene and Hockaday's sacrifice fly gave TWC a run in the first. A walk, doubles by Donald and McCain and singles from Minton and Boddicker highlighted a four-run second and Wesleyan led, 5-1. Matt Malloy singled in the seventh as the Bulldogs added their final two runs. Boddicker, Malloy and Donald each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI. McCain, who was 7-for-12 in the series, had a hit and two RBIS.
The Bulldogs host Faulkner University on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
