Bulldogs traveled to Milligan College this weekend for the 3 game AAC series. After suffering two losses on Saturday (1-4; 6-10), the Bulldogs came back to win on Sunday, 6-5. With the win on Sunday and losses by AAC foes Reinhardt and Union, the Bulldogs remain atop the AAC.
Brent Adheen (SR/Ft. Lauderdale, FL) went the distance in the first game, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. Tennessee Wesleyan took a brief, 1-0, lead in the third when David Donald (SR/Greenville, SC) singled, stole second, was bunted to third and scored on a sacrifice fly. Milligan tied it in the bottom of the inning, then added two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth. TWC had just three hits one each by Donald, Wes Minton (SR/Loveland, OH) and Shell McCain (JR/Fort Mill, SC).
Milligan built a 7-1 lead after four innings against Tennessee Wesleyan starter Alex Pridemore (JR/Union, SC) and reliever Tyler Wilson (SR/Gaffney, SC) in the second game. The Bulldogs got back into the game with a four-run sixth that closed the gap, 7-5. An error, two walks, a hit-batsman, James Boddicker (JR/Overland Park, KS)'s single and Cody Heifnar (JR/Athens, TN)'s three-run double produced the runs. Milligan answered with three runs in the home half and Tennessee Wesleyan could only get one run back on Minton's RBI single in the seventh. Boddicker and K.J. Hockaday (JR/Joppa, MD) each had two of TWC's six hits.
On Sunday, Milligan jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Bulldog starter Josh Clemen (SR/Bradenton, FL). Tim Kiene (JR/South Windsor, CT) doubled, Hockaday singled and Brad Carpenter (JR/Nashville, TN) hit a sacrifice fly for a run in the second. Tennessee Wesleyan took the lead with a four-run third, all the runs coming after two were out and highlighted by Hockaday's three-run homer.The Bulldogs made it 6-3 in the fifth on singles by Boddicker and Minton. Clemen allowed a run in the sixth and another in the eighth before Wilson came on to get the final two outs. Wilson then pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to preserve the victory. Clemen allowed five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, striking out eight and walking three. Wilson surrendered one hit and fanned one. The Bulldogs had 11 hits. Minton collected three hits, one RBI, one run scored; Hockaday three hits, three RBIs, one run scored and Kiene two hits, two runs scored.
