The Bulldogs were the only top seeded team to win on the first day of the Appalachian Athletic Tournament. Tennessee Wesleyan took an early lead in the first inning scoring one but VI tied it up in the top of the 3rd. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 2 then 5 with a 6-1 lead after the fourth inning. In the 8th, VI scored 2 but TWC answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning to win 8-3.
Matt Malloy, Tim Kiene, and Brad Carpenter all had two hits for the Bulldogs, with Carpenter, Malloy, and Wes Miinton all having doubles. Taylor pitched the first seven innings for the Bulldogs giving up one run on four hits. He had 2 walks and five strikeouts. Logan Longwith came in and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits in the 8th, and was replaced with Taylor Saucedo who finished out the inning. Brandon Landrie closed out the game in the ninth giving up one hit.
The Bulldogs play Bryan College at 7:00 pm tonight.
