DAYTONA BEACH, Fla - (Individual Results | Team Results | Video Recap) Josh Wheeler of Tennessee Wesleyan posted a three-under 69 on the final round of the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships on Friday to put in a tie for fifth overall and helping Tennessee Wesleyan to a ninth-place showing.
Wheeler tallied a three-round score of two-under 214, improving his scores with each round. He opened play with a two-over 74 but posted a one-under 71 and three-under 69 to finish at 214 for the week. For his efforts, Wheeler finished in a tie for fifth, earning him a spot on the 15-person NAIA All-Tournament Team.
The national tournament was shortened from 72 holes to 54 holes due to inclement weather.
Like Wheeler, Tennessee Wesleyan improved its standing each day. After back-to-back rounds of 297, the Bulldogs fired a 289 during the final round for a final score of 883, putting them 19-over par. Coastal Georgia won the national title with a one-over 865. Tennessee Wesleyan sat 13th following the first round before improving to 11th after round two. The final round tally of 289 helped the Bulldogs crack the top 10 to end up ninth overall.
Keoni Vidrine was the next highest finisher for Tennessee Wesleyan, placing tied for 19th with a two-over 218.
