The men's lacrosse team finished up conference play this year going 4-1 and making the playoffs again. This is the second season for the men's lacrosse team at TWC and also their second playoff birth. Only the top six teams of the 16 conference teams go to the playoffs. TWC is looking at a three seed in the playoffs.
On Friday, the Bulldogs took on the Tide of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. While the game was cut short due to some conduct issues on the bench of Alabama, the Bulldogs capitalized with the time they were given winning 6-3. The game was dominated by Ryne Owen in goal making 17 of 20 saves for a save percentage of 85%. Offensively the wealth was shared. Making tallies in the stat book were: Elliot Woods 2g 1a, Joel Gossner 1g, Andrew Congleton 1g, Ryan Horvath 1g, and Blake Harper 1g. Feeding the ball to goal scorers were Taylor Parker, Mark Tortorello, and Brett Harper each having one assist. "This was a big game underneath the lights that the guys have been waiting for all week" Coach Young says in dismay "I wish we could have played it in it entirety. But we will take a win anyway we can get it."
On Saturday, the Bulldogs played the Panthers of Georgia State in Atlanta, GA. This game was a physical game with very few penalties called and four major injuries accrued through the game. If the Bulldogs were to lose this game it would be the end of their playoff hopes, but this day was the day that their hard work would pay off. Taking a commanding lead in the first half of 10-1, the Bulldogs did not let up and finished up the game 18-5. Of the 18 goals there were 15 players that contributed to them. While the score shows the offense dominating the game that stats show that the defense controlled the game with John Lemoine having a .900 save percentage and Ryne Owen having .818 save percentage. Producing goals for the Bulldogs were Joel Gossner 6g 1a, Ryan Horvath 3g 1a, Andrew Congleton 2g 2a, Blake Harper 2g, Elliot Woods 1g, Anthony Hunt 1g, Brandon Singleton 1g, Jackson Isler 1g, and Victor Black 1g. Assisting them was Kyle Howell 2a, Mark Tortorello 2a, Mason Onstott 1a, Brett Harper 1a, Tyler Willeson 1a, and Cody Rooks 1a. "I am proud of our team and what we did here today with the selflessness of the players and clinching a playoff spot as a team" a relieved Coach Young comments "But my thoughts and prayers go out to the injured players from today's game."
