With fall practice in full swing the Tennessee Wesleyan College baseball team experienced another busy summer with seven returning players participating in various summer collegiate leagues around the country. These players helped lead TWC to its eleventh AAC championship in the last thirteen years. The 2014 club also qualified for the NAIA National Opening Round Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. With their seasons coming to a close we wanted to take this time to update their summer success.
VALLEY COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Shell McCain – OF – Fort Mill, South Carolina – Returning Senior – Front Royal Cardinals
Shell spent the summer of 2014 playing for the Front Royal Cardinals. The Cardinals finished in second place at the conclusion of the regular season and qualified for the Valley League Playoffs. McCain was selected to represent the North squad in the Valley League All Star game. During the regular season he hit .333 with 12 doubles, 4 homeruns, 34 runs batted in and 20 stolen bases in 39 games. Those numbers landed him second on the team in homeruns and runs batted in and third on the team in average.
Logan Longwith – RHP – Cleveland, Tennessee – Returning Red Shirt Sophomore – Front Royal Cardinals
Logan spent the summer of 2014 playing for the Front Royal Cardinals. He helped to lead the Cardinals to a second place regular season finish and a spot in the Valley League Playoffs. At the conclusion of the 2014 summer Logan was selected by Baseball America as the 5th best professional prospect from the Valley Collegiate League. The right hander appeared in 17 games making 1 start. In 29.1 innings he fanned 28 batters and walked 7. Longwith with 2-1 with a 4.60 earned run average. Those numbers put him third on the team in both wins and strikeouts.
Tim Kiene – INF – South Windsor, Connecticut – Returning Senior – New Market Rebels
Tim spent the summer of 2014 playing for the New Market Rebels. In 24 games the first baseman hit .288 with 8 doubles, 1 homerun and 11 runs batted in. His .288 average was good for third on the Rebels team at the conclusion of the season.
Ryan Phillips – INF – Richmond, Virginia – Returning Red Shirt Sophomore – New Market Rebels
Ryan spent the summer of 2014 playing for the New Market Rebels. Phillips spent time all over the infield for New Market playing in 27 games. He hit .161 with 2 doubles, 4 runs batted in and finished the 2014 summer with 4 stolen bases.
CAL RIPKEN COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
K.J. Hockaday – INF – Joppa, Maryland – Returning Senior – Youses Orioles
K.J. spent the summer of 2014 playing for the Youses Orioles. The Orioles qualified for the Cal Ripken League Playoffs at the conclusion of the regular season. In 33 games Hockaday hit .274 with 5 doubles, 2 triples, 10 runs batted in and 4 stolen bases. He finished second on the team in average at the conclusion of the season.
Kendall Radcliffe – OF – Chicago, Illinois, Returning Red Shirt Junior – Baltimore Dodgers
Kendall spent the summer of 2014 playing for the Baltimore Dodgers. The returning red shirt junior appeared in 31 games hitting at a .252 clip. His .252 average landed him fourth on the team at the conclusion of the season. Radcliffe added 7 doubles, 4 runs batted in and 8 stolen bases for the Dodgers.
BEACH COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Cody Stroud – INF/OF – Cedar Hill, Tennessee – Returning Junior – Carolina Forest Crawdads
Cody spent the summer of 2014 playing for the Carolina Forest Crawdads in the Beach League which is based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Stroud played in 21 games and in 52 plate appearances he batted .269 for the summer. The left handed hitting rising junior ended the season with 4 doubles, 1 homerun, 9 runs batted in with 10 runs scored.
