ATHENS, Tenn. – Tennessee Wesleyan College is ranked No. 23 in the 2015 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Bulldogs collected 151 total points en route to their eighth straight Top 25 Preseason ranking dating back to 2007.
Wesleyan, which finished 2014 with a 35-24-1 record, won its eleventh AAC Conference regular season championship in the last thirteen years dating back to 2002. With that the Bulldogs qualified for the Daytona Beach Opening Round, making it the sixth consecutive year that the program has qualified for an Opening Round Tournament since the new format began in 2009.
The Bulldogs returns seven position letter winners and five starters – outfielders Cody Hiefnar and Shell McCain along with infielders Tim Kiene, Brad Carpenter, and K.J. Hockaday – as well as five pitching letter winners, including seniors Taylor Patterson, Brandon Landrie, Ty Powell, and the return of Jarrod Jameson who red shirted in 2014 due to injury after going 14-0 in 2013 in route to being named a NAIA 1st Team All American.
The Bulldogs play three teams in the Preseason Top 25, with games against defending National Champion Cumberland University, 2013 National Champion Faulkner University, and longtime NAIA power Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
