Bulldogs hosted Truett McConnell on Saturday, and fell in the final minutes losing 73-69.
The offense struggled to make shots and Wesleyan found itself in a 22-9 hole at the 11:31 mark. The TWC rally started innocently enough with two free throws by Justin Simmons, but Stephen Kite took over from there as the Bulldogs exploded. Kite followed a Truett turnover by hitting the first of his three 3-point baskets in the streak. The senior guard added a short jumper and two free throws, accounting for 13 of the 20 points.
Devante Jenkins converted a three-point play and had five points as TWC zipped in front, 29-22, with 4:56 left before intermission. The teams traded baskets from there and TWC led, 38-32, at the half.
Tennessee Wesleyan stretched the lead to 10 on a Simmons' bucket three minutes into the second half and were in front by 11, 51-40, with a Jenkins' basket with 14 minutes remaining. The shots, however, stopped falling and the Bears were able to regroup, finally running the Bulldogs down to tie the game at 59. The lead changed hands on two occasions before four missed free throws by Tennessee Wesleyan allowed the Bears to pull away.
Jenkins tallied 21 points and led the Bulldogs in rebounding, as well, with 17 boards. Simmons and Kite finished with 13 points each.
