The Bulldogs fell to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the AAC last Tuesday night when they were defeated by Union College, 95-87.
Union led, 6-0, after a minute of play and 12-0 with less than two minutes gone. The deficit was 14-0 before Hayden Mosley bagged a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs. The gap grew to 18, 33-15, before the Bulldogs began to fight back. Devante Jenkins had six points, while Stephen Kite Jr. netted five points and Leland Robinson and Dante Turnipseed added four points each, helping Wesleyan to trail by only six at the break, 46-40.
The score stood at 58-53 after a pair of free throws from Jenkins and trey from Turnipseed with 14 minutes to play. That was close as the Bulldogs would come when two non-scoring possessions by Tennessee Wesleyan and a three-point play by Union squashed the comeback bid.
Turnipseed had 19 points, four assists; Kite Jr. 15 points; Jenkins 12 points, 11 rebounds and Wes Richey 11 points.
Union (7-2), No. 16 in the NAIA Top 25 rankings, was paced by J.D. Tucker and Deante Johnson with 25 and 21 points, respectively.
TWC was out-rebounded 37-25 and Union shot 54 percent from the field (including 32 of 50 on two-point attempts) against the porous Bulldogs' defense.
Scoring for the Bulldogs was Jenkins 12, Robinson 4, Simmons 5, Kite Jr. 15, Mosley 9, Russell, Smith 5, Richey 11, Triplett 7, Turnipseed 19.
The Bulldogs will travel to Bluefield College on Wednesday before hosting their last home game before the Christmas break on Saturday. TWC will play St. Andrews on Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Bulldogs will host a food drive at the game so bring a non perishable or canned food item to the game for free admission.
