Bulldogs traveled to Bluefield College on Wednesday but couldn't break the losing streak they are on, being defeated 84-83 by the Rams.
D'Monta Smith converted two free throws; Justin Simmons hit a short jumper; Hayden Mosley drained a "3" and Stephen Kite Jr. netted two free throws as TWC closed the first half on 9-2 run to lead, 48-39. The gap grew to 13 at 54-41 before the Rams caught fire, out-scoring the Bulldogs, 29-5, to surge in front, 70-61, with nine minutes to play. Tennessee Wesleyan, however, regrouped to regain the lead at 83-76 on a 3-pointer by Mosley with 3:30 remaining, but would not score again. Bluefield pulled within one, then came up with a steal and dunk to reclaim the lead at 84-83 with 22 seconds left.
TWC failed to connect on two shots on either side of two missed free throws by Bluefield, allowing the Rams to escape with the win.
The difference came at the charity stripe. TWC was accurate, hitting eight of 10 chances, but the Rams stepped to the line 28 times and converted 18.
D'monta Smith and Stephen Kite Jr. had 17 point each; Jason Simmons 13 points and Devante Jenkins 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs will host St. Andrews on Saturday at 2:00 pm with free admission for anyone who brings a nonperishable or canned food item.
