Tennessee Wesleyan improves to 5-5 in the AAC with a win over Montreat College on Saturday. The Bulldogs defeated the Cavaliers 88-75.
Leading 8-6, TWC broke the game open with a 22-8 run. Dante Turnipseed, Derek Triplett and Stephen Kite Jr. had 3-pointers and, along with scoring from Devante Jenkins, Leland Robinson, Jeremy Davison and Charles White, the Bulldogs were on top, 30-16. Tennessee Wesleyan would lead, 36-24, at the intermission.
The Bulldogs continued to pull away in the second half and Robinson's field goal with 9:09 remaining, widened the margin to 28, 66-38. Fueled by four TWC turnovers, the Cavaliers then reeled off 13 unanswered points in just a 90-second span to pull within 15, 66-51, and would inch within at 11, 69-58. Buckets by Jenkins and White and a three-point play from Kite Jr. stemmed the tide as TWC went back up by 15.
All five Wesleyan starters finished in double figures, paced by Turnipseed's 18 points, six rebounds and six assists. Jenkins tallied 16 points; Kite Jr. 15 points, six assists, eight rebounds; Robinson 14 points, a team season-high 19 rebounds and White 12 points, three blocked shots.
The Bulldogs travel to Reinhardt University on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm Tip-off.
