Athens, TN: Tennessee Wesleyan College is pleased to announce the addition of Men's and Women's Bowling to the lineup of sports offered on campus. Collegiate bowling is a sport growing in popularity around the country, and currently, it is considered an "emerging" sport within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
"We have processed the idea of adding bowling to our sport offerings for several years now", Donny Mayfield, Director of Athletics at TWC stated. "With the support of President Knowles, we felt that this was the right time to get bowling started on our campus for both men and women".
Former Bulldog athlete, Matt Harper, has been named Head Coach for the Men's and Women's Bowling team, and he is excited to begin recruiting and evolving the sport at TWC. "I am honored to have this opportunity to begin a new athletic program in our athletic department. I have a great passion for Tennessee Wesleyan College and being a local resident, my main goal is for this institution to grow and succeed into the future. In regards to the challenge of starting a new athletic program, Coach Harper stated "I have had experience starting new programs at the college and look forward to this challenge of recruiting and bringing in a new type of athlete to TWC." Coach Harper's previous new program was the successful addition of the TWC Love thy Neighbor project that is housed in the Servant Leadership office.
