Gulf Shores, Al. - The men's track and field team will be bringing nine national qualifier to compete in seven different events this upcoming weekend at the 2015 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships located at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The meet will start Thursday, May 21st and last through Saturday, May 23rd. This past indoor season, the men's team posted a 15th place finish and is hoping to improve upon that team finish this outdoor season.
Reigning indoor 60-meter champion sophomore Avery Hubbard will be looking to see the same success at Outdoor Nationals. Hubbard will be competing in three different events. His first event will be the 4x100-meter relay. Hubbard will be anchoring the team comprised of freshman Cadarius Harris, junior Steven Dodd, and freshman Jake Morganstern. The team is entering the meet ranked seventh with a school record time of 41.05, set earlier this month at the Kentucky Relays. The prelims are set for Thursday at 3:00pm. The final will then be on Saturday at 2:50pm.
After the 4x100-meter relay, Hubbard will then compete in the prelims of the 200-meter dash. He comes in ranked 15th in the event with a time of 21.40 set at the Kentucky Relays. His prelim race is set to go off at 5:05pm Thursday evening, with the final set for a 5:20pm start time on Saturday. Finally, Hubbard will also compete in the 100-meter dash. Hubbard is ranked ninth in the event with a school record time of 10.51 set at the Tennessee Relays. The prelims for the 100-meter dash are at 3:10pm Friday afternoon, and the final is at 4:00pm Saturday afternoon. At the 2014 Outdoor Nationals, Hubbard finished seventh overall in the 100-meter dash with a finishing time of 10.60.
Two-time indoor All-American senior Joseph Mullen will be ending his stellar career for the Bulldogs this weekend with performances in the 10,000- and 5,000-meter races. Mullen will first compete in the 10,000-meter race Thursday evening at 8:45pm. Mullen is ranked seventh with a time of 30:45.49 set at the Emory University Invitational earlier this track season. The following day, Mullen will run in the prelims of the 5,000-meter race. The start time for the prelims will be 7:00pm and the final will be Saturday at 5:55pm. Mullen is ranked fifth in the 5,000-meter race with a school record time of 14:24.65 set at the Tennessee Relays.
The other two distance men to represent Tennessee Wesleyan at sophomore Roderick Bowman and sophomore Chad Whitehead. Bowman will also be competing in the 10,000-meter race, where he is ranked 11th with a time of 31:06.17 set at the Emory University Invitational. Last year at Outdoor Nationals, Bowman finished fourth overall in the 10,000-meter with a finishing time of 30:48.76. Whitehead will be competing in the 1,500-meter race this weekend. He is ranked 22nd with a school record time of 3:54.16 set at the Tennessee Relays. The prelims are scheduled for Thursday at 3:40pm and the final scheduled on Saturday at 3:10pm.
Sophomore Edra Gipson represented the Bulldogs in the 60-meter dash this past indoor season and will be representing them again this outdoor season in the 100-meter dash. Gipson is ranked 26th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.73 set at the Tennessee Relays. Additionally, Gipson will serve as an alternate for the 4x100m relay team. The other alternate for the relay team is freshman Josh Parsons.
The last national qualifier for the Bulldogs is freshman Chaz Hawkins. Hawkins will be competing in the 110-meter hurdles. He is ranked 15th with a school record time of 14.73 set at the Tennessee Relays. The prelims for his event at set for Friday at 1:45pm, with the final on Saturday at 3:40pm
