TWC didn't have to search far to fill the vacancy in their Head Coach for Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track position. Justin Herbert has been tabbed as the second head coach to oversee both cross country and track.
Justin comes to TWC from Montreat College where he served as Head Coach for Cross Country and Track since January 2011. In his time at Montreat, Herbert helped to build 17 individual conference champions, 21 school records, 3 conference records, 16 national qualifiers, and the first AAC Men's Track Championship in Montreat College history in 2013. He was also named the 2013 AAC Coach of the Year in Men's Track. In addition to his duties as Head Coach, he has served as the Sport Chair for both Cross Country and Track & Field for the last two years in the AAC and was asked to chair the Marathon Event Committee for the NAIA.
"We look forward to having Coach Herbert join our coaching staff and to continue to build on the success that Shawn Jakubowski established during his time here" stated Donny Mayfield, Director of Athletics. "Coach Herbert has a great background in developing student athletes for competition, and he also has a great reputation of developing character in his teams." In 2014, Montreat College was awarded the NAIA Women's Track and Field Buffalo Five Star Champions of Character team under Coach Herbert's direction.
"I am excited for the opportunity to build on the foundation that Coach Jakubowski has established here at Tennessee Wesleyan" stated Justin Herbert. "Shawn did an excellent job in building this program from the ground up, and now I'm excited to take the program to the next level. I'm looking forward to a great future here at TWC and continuing the winning tradition."
