The No. 9th ranked and No. 1 seed Bulldogs suffered a tough loss in the Opening Round of the 2009 NAIA Baseball Championship when No. 4 seed Belhaven College won 9-7. The Bulldog opponent for tonights game is Indiana Institute of Technology. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. INIT defeated Spring Arbor earlier today 6-4. Webcast for TWC BulldogsThe Bulldogs took a 6-2 lead into the seventh inning when Belhaven scored two runs and added two more runs in the eighth to tie the game at 6-6. Belhaven added three more runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead 9-6. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth TWC scored one more run for the final score 9-7.
Justin Crowell was the starting pitcher going 7 1/3 innings giving up 10 hits, six runs, three walks while striking out seven. Gabe Rios pitched in relief taking the loss while giving up two hits, two runs, one walk and striking out one. Jason Ferguson pitched one inning of relief giving up two hits, one run, and one walk.
The Bulldog offense was led by Gary Tucker. Tucker was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. Tucker had three of TWC's five stolen bases. Eddie Van Es was 2-for-5 with a double, one RBI and a stolen base. Brandon Munsey was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Matt Stanley was 2-for-3 with a doubleand one RBI.
