ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Leland Robinson of Tennessee Wesleyan College and Jara Gasper of Tennessee Wesleyan College are the Appalachian Athletic Coference Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This is the fifth weekly edition of the awards for 2015-16. The next set of honors will be announced on Jan. 11.
AAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Leland Robinson - Tenessee Wesleyan - Sr. - F/C - Jackson, Tenn.
Averaged 29.0 points and 11.5 rebounds to help Tennessee Wesleyan to a 2-0 record.
Had two (2) assists, two (2) blocks and four (4) steals as well.
Scored a season-high 37 points to go with 14 rebounds in an 86-63 win at Webber International University.
The 37 points are tied for second most by an individual in the AAC this season.
Ranks eighth in NAIA Division II in points per game (24.0) and 15th in rebounds per game (9.545).
This is the second time this season and in his career Robinson earned this award.
AAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Jara Gasper - Tenessee Wesleyan - Sr. - Guard - Loudon, Tenn.
Averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds last week as Tennessee Wesleyan went 1-1.
Had seven (7) assists and two (2) steals as well.
Scored a season-high 26 points in a 70-64 loss to No. 9 Indiana Wesleyan University.
Ranks 14th in NAIA Division in 3-pointers made per game (3.0).
Shot 53.8 percent (7 of 13) from 3-point range last week and went 11-for-25 (44 percent) from the field.
Averages 15.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season.
This is the first-ever weekly honor for Gasper.
